How the insecticides affect the public health and environment indirectly
With reference to a topic published by Alourobah in its environment and science page, we talked about the use of agricultural insecticides, their properties and how the environment gets it, their direct influence on the public health, their disadvantages.
As a completing to that important topic, we talk today about the disadvantages of the insecticides indirectly with the help of the information that Doctor Salim Hadad / head of environmental and chronically diseases department in the Hams Sahah district. Doctor Salim said:" the agricultural insecticides are chemical and poisonous materials used for killing the insects and they affect on the biological processes for many of the flesh creatures and they are also poisonous for both human and animal and other creatures. The use of insecticides is considered to be one of the most dangerous problems. If we supposed that some of the insecticides are less poisonous than others for human and animal, there are many of them are highly poisonous. So at the time of selecting the type of insecticide farmer should choose the less poisonous insecticide especially that the farmer himself is exposed to harm at the time of storing or execution of the fighting process.
The chemical insecticides cause many different problems for human. The accusation is against them since they are responsible for many of the cancer diseases in the liver, bladder and thyroid gland and embryo disfigurement, with addition to their direct influence on the nervous system and paralysis causing, the statistics that done in Britain showed that these diseases one of the most prevalent in the agricultural regions where the use of the insecticide are more. Moreover, to the injuries number of the customer of the agricultural products, the insecticides poison cows, live stocks, fish, birds and flesh creatures, this is done by the pollution of fodder, water and environment that they live in. These animals, birds and fish are considered to be the source of man's food, man will poison because of the use of insecticides. These insecticides are such as:- dioxin that is the most poisonous material and it has great bad and dangerous effects on man and animal, it also causes cancer such as leukemia, breast cancer, it is able to malformation and affect the nerve cell. Therefore, the Belgian and Dutch governments spoiled thousands tons of meat because they contain dioxin.
The most choleric organic insecticides are chemically static in the biological environmental places where they stay and collect for long time in the soil ,water and in the
food, plant and animals products and then it comes to man where it accumulate in fat place. The choleric organic compounds are described as low poison insecticide and the direct and dangerous future influences. This is referred to that the choleric organic compound can not break or accumulate in biological places and D.D.T material is an example of this compound.
The studies showed that this material is in the river and lake water in low average where they reaches to high average in the water fish and birds because of its accumulative for long time. Sometimes the nitrite that is existed in the soil
interacts with some of the insecticides and forms a new compound that is nitrozailt which pollutes the soil and the drain water, it is absorbed with the plant copaiba and stored in the plant and then to man caused cancer and other diseases for him. On the basis of this we can say that the insecticides are double edged weapon. They sometimes help us to increase the yield by killing the agricultural cankers and insects and give the plant chance to grow, in other way they are dangerous both directly and indirectly and cause many different diseases for man and animal, they also weaken the quality of the soil by killing the bacteria that is found in it.
Rationalization of Insecticides use
Many product companies for agricultural insecticides along with those who import and sell them argue with the farmers who use these insecticides. Generally we can say that the agricultural insecticides are dangerous and poisonous for man, animal and environment. The reports indicate to the increasing dangers of these insecticides in the third world countries. It is written in the study of the United Nation that the agricultural insecticides are so dangerous and they are in at least 85 undeveloped countries and about million people suffered from serve poison annually. The developed countries put strict laws to limit the dangers of the insecticides or prohibit its use whereas the poor countries consider the insecticides as an important factor to improve the agriculture. And what is let the matter worse than it is the contradiction of the developed and manufactured countries that manufacture these insecticides and export them to the third world countries at the same time they issue laws to prevent use of such these insecticides on their lands. The prohibited insecticides or use restricted or not licensed for local use such as sevenfold choler which is one of the cancer cause and D.D.T which its use restricted for agricultural yields in 1978 but the company that invented the product is still manufacturing it for example, the USA rejected to import the agricultural products from the countries of the Caribbean specially citrus products that is
sterilized by bromide ethylene which is thought to be the motive for
some types of cancer, this product is exported to the third world countries. In the seventies of the last century the choleric organic compounds used in Syria but the minister of the agriculture issued a decree to prevent exporting or using
such these compounds.
Finally Doctor/ Salam Ali emphasized on the necessity of prohibition of the poisonous insecticides that contain choler and the croup dusting. He stated that the use of the insecticides should be in need and at the absence of other alternatives and it should not be in all the time.
